Abstract

|
The immunogenicity and safety of a heat-inactivated hepatitis B vaccine were studied in 66 healthy volunteers at a low risk to be infected with hepatitis B virus. They received three doses of 3?g heat-inactivated HBsAg at intervals of one month. One month after the first injection, 33.3%, at month two 66.7% and at month five, a total of 97% had become anti-HBs positive. Maximum anti-HBs titres were reached five months after the first vaccination, the geometric mean titre being 235.6mIU. During the five months observation period none of the vaccines become HBsAg and/or anti-HBc positive. The vaccine had no serious side effects.
